The letter A (small a) is called “A” and usually makes the sound “Ah”. Common first words are Apple, Ant, Airplane.
Say the name first, then the sound, then a word: “A… A for Apple”. Ask your child to repeat it, find something at home that starts with A, and then trace the letter. Read more in our guide to teaching the alphabet.
