The letter Y (small y) is called “Y” and usually makes the sound “Yuh”. Common first words are Yo-yo, Yak, Yacht.
Say the name first, then the sound, then a word: “Y… Y for Yak”. Ask your child to repeat it, find something at home that starts with Y, and then trace the letter. Read more in our guide to teaching the alphabet.
