The letter I (small i) is called “I” and usually makes the sound “Ih”. Common first words are Ice Cream, Igloo, Island.
Say the name first, then the sound, then a word: “I… I for Ice Cream”. Ask your child to repeat it, find something at home that starts with I, and then trace the letter. Read more in our guide to teaching the alphabet.
